The DGT 3.0 platform will take advantage of the connected car to keep us, precisely, connected to DGT itself. This we know, this they promise and this is needed.

As of May of this year, all new cars that are homologated must have a black box. The objective is for them to tell us what happened before an accident, so that the facts can be clarified and, if necessary, the safety systems of the car or the road can be improved if a pattern is discovered.

As of 2026, this type of beacon is intended to automatically connect with the DGT when it starts up and geolocate the vehicle. Noisy… The promises of the DGT are many and not only focus on security. According to the agency, the new connected vehicles will allow more efficient traffic management, with real-time reports of traffic jams, street closures due to sporting events or warnings to drivers that they are going to enter a space restricted to less polluting vehicles. The first step is 2026, with the V-16 lights connected, but there is no specific date for the definitive implementation of all these advantages.

Always connected. What can be read between the lines? That our vehicles will have to be always connected to offer their geolocation data. The management of this information must be anonymous, as will also happen with the black boxes, without the ability to associate the vehicle and the identity of the driver and passengers, as we read in the Technical Specifications for the DGT 3.0 Connected Vehicle Platform.

By 2025, the European Union will have invested 3.5 billion euros to provide 5G to large cities, main roads and railways. Spain will invest 1,500 million in three years. This should also allow the safe operation of future autonomous vehicles, which will have to base their circulation on constant conversations with nearby infrastructure and other vehicles.
