vehicles will talk to the platform from 2026

All we ever hear from you is blah, blah, blah. But, the safest thing is that we do not say LOL, as mentioned in the Armin Van Buuren song. It will be our car that speaks and the DGT that listens. The DGT 3.0 platform will take advantage of the connected car to keep us, precisely, connected to DGT itself. This we know, this they promise and this is needed.

his first words. If our cars will talk to the DGT in the future, we can say that right now they are already babbling their first words. As of May of this year, all new cars that are homologated must have a black box. The objective is for them to tell us what happened before an accident, so that the facts can be clarified and, if necessary, the safety systems of the car or the road can be improved if a pattern is discovered.

light v-16. Another of the devices that will speak with the DGT will be the future connected V-16 light, which will be mandatory to replace the emergency triangles. As of 2026, this type of beacon is intended to automatically connect with the DGT when it starts up and geolocate the vehicle. The control center will be able to have a complete photograph with all the accidents, breakdowns or incidents on Spanish roads.

Noisy… The promises of the DGT are many and not only focus on security. According to the agency, the new connected vehicles will allow more efficient traffic management, with real-time reports of traffic jams, street closures due to sporting events or warnings to drivers that they are going to enter a space restricted to less polluting vehicles. The first step is 2026, with the V-16 lights connected, but there is no specific date for the definitive implementation of all these advantages.

Always connected. What can be read between the lines? That our vehicles will have to be always connected to offer their geolocation data. The management of this information must be anonymous, as will also happen with the black boxes, without the ability to associate the vehicle and the identity of the driver and passengers, as we read in the Technical Specifications for the DGT 3.0 Connected Vehicle Platform.

misgivings. Despite everything, this constant monitoring of our vehicle has raised some misgivings before this new DGT 3.0. And it is that, although it is still to be defined which specific systems of our vehicle will inform the body, in the aforementioned specifications the activation of the ESP, the ABS or the fog lights and the windshield wipers are indicated.

The future of the connected car: 27 technologies that will transform the way we drive and use the car

The key. The key for all this to become a reality is the 5G network. This new standard for mobile data transmission should be able to eliminate the bottleneck that occurs in large urban areas where connected devices multiply. Also its speed, between 10 and 20 times faster than the current one, which will allow almost instant data management.

Just One More. Be that as it may, our car connecting to the portals of the DGT will only be one more of the activities carried out without us being able to do anything to prevent it. By 2025, the European Union will have invested 3.5 billion euros to provide 5G to large cities, main roads and railways. Spain will invest 1,500 million in three years. This should also allow the safe operation of future autonomous vehicles, which will have to base their circulation on constant conversations with nearby infrastructure and other vehicles. All we ever hear from you is blah, blah, blah.
