The movies, luckily for everyone, they are not divided into two categories as gray, boring and unattractive as “good” and “bad”. There are good ones and there are bad ones, of course, but what makes all this fun is that each one has its reasons and intrahistory to fall into one category or another (which is perfectly subjective, moreover, what ends up giving salt shaker to the question). Forget ashes like the Razzies or cold humorless numbers like the Rotten Tomatoes scores.

‘Edwood’, the Tim Burton film that has just landed on Disney +, is not only a celebration of enthusiasm (embodied here by a feverish Johnny Depp giving life to the filmmaker who signed jewels such as ‘Plan 9 from Outer Space’) for shooting films fall and cost what it costs, and what others think. It is also an ode to nuances, to give up black and white in opinions: even the worst film in history has substance behind it that transcends any numerical score.

Ed Wood was a fascinating real character, with a complex life full of chiaroscuros that, unfortunately, are not portrayed in the film because Burton very consciously chooses not to portray them. He stops his chronicle of an impossible movie dream just when Ed Wood thinks he’s going to make it. in Hollywood and spares us the agonizing years of addiction, misery and pornography that followed, and which could lead to a very different and just as interesting film.

The Camino de Santiago becomes terrifying in this intense and violent Spanish series that you can watch in one sitting on Disney+

But what we have with ‘Ed Wood’ is a hilarious ode to the magic of storytelling, with a spectacular cast (Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi in the saddest years of his life is superb, but watch out for sidekicks like Bill Murray, Patricia Arquette or Jeffrey Jones, among many others) and a chronicle of the B-side of Hollywood at the time. An unrepeatable era when the good and the bad were not mere hashtags to use as throwing weapons in social networks.
