The waiting list to buy a Tesla in Spain is endless. Skipping it has a price: €11,000 more

The registrations They do not go through a great moment in Spain. The harsh inflation that we are experiencing and the problems in the supply chain have made available cars few and expensive. A situation that is especially harsh in the electric market.

This type of technology is growing strongly in the country, with a 31% growth compared to the same month of the previous year. So far this year, growth has been almost 50% compared to 2021. Although the figures are striking, the truth is that 2,620 units of purely electric vehicles were sold in July, we have 19,361 registrations throughout the year and the market share remains, for the time being, at 3.42%.

Of course, if we look at the list of best sellers, we can say that the cars that are sold are, simply and simply, those that are available. Focused on the five most successful models in our country, Kia confirmed to us during our first contact with the Kia Niro PHEV that its battery models (PHEV and electric) are having certain problems to cover all your demand.

In fact, right now, the waiting list to receive a Kia e-Niro or an EV6 is about six months, due to problems in the supply chain. From Hyundai we have confirmed similar problems with its Ioniq 5. In Spain, brands continue to rely on combustion models now that priority must be given between models and markets.

Above all these models, the Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling electric car in Spain. In July he accumulated 1,592 units, almost 500 more than the Kia e-Niro, its immediate pursuer. Tesla is also the most transparent firm when it comes to giving an approximate delivery of its cars. In your configurator it is automatically shown when you expect to receive the desired unit.

At the moment, we are waiting for an official response with the cases of the Citroën ë-C4 and the Fiat 500e, the other two models that, together with the Kia, Hyundai and Tesla Model 3 form the quintet of the best-selling electric vehicles in Spain.

And demand seems to far outstrip supply. In fact, in Spain a phenomenon is already taking place that is not repeated with other models and that they have been watching in the United States for months: already sold more expensive used models than the new ones. A situation that is not seen in any of the other best-selling electric models.

Up to 7,000 euros more for a used Tesla

The demand for Tesla in Spain is incomparable to that of any other electric model. Although it is true that buying a unit in stock of a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or a Fiat 500e, to give just two examples, barely saves money compared to waiting for a new one, nothing resembles the situation of Tesla.

It is enough to take a look at well-known websites that offer second-hand vehicles to see proposals far removed from the official sale price by the brand.

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range it is the model for which it is most expensive to skip the waiting list for a new car right now. In the Tesla’s websiteit is possible to buy it for 57,990 euros but it is necessary to wait, at least, until January 2023 or March of next year, in the worst case.

The second-hand car market has gone haywire: there are brands paying $5,000 for you not to resell their models

If we prefer to have it already in our hands, it is not difficult to find advertisements for the car by more than 62,000 euros with 18,000 kilometers on its wheels. Options at 64,990 euros (paying in cash) with 6,900 kilometers and up to €68,900 if we want it brand new, with only 20 kilometers traveled.

In fact, it’s easy to find performance versions Brand new or with a few thousand kilometers traveled cheaper than this Long Range version. And it is that, despite being a superior version (on the Tesla website it is sold for 64,990 euros) it subtracts a few kilometers from its total autonomy.

The other highly sought after model is the Tesla Model Y. The small SUV has two versions on the official Tesla website. The Great Autonomy has a price of 65,990 euros and is delivered between the next months of November and January. The Performance model repeats waiting time and costs 70,000 euros.

Although the wait is shorter, the situation is repeated. Models with 750 kilometers, practically brand new, but 7,500 euros more expensive that bought new in its Great Autonomy version. Other options that, in cash, are worth almost 5,000 euros more and with 12,000 kilometers on the wheels. And almost 7,000 euros more in its Performance version with almost 10,000 kilometers traveled.
