Stadia prepares for Windows games to be supported natively

Google Stadia is a cloud gaming service that has been somewhat faded in recent times. However, its managers seem to be preparing a relevant feature: Windows game support.

novelty could be announced next week at the Google for Games Developer Summit, an event in which it has already been discovered one session titled “how to create a Windows emulator for Linux from scratch”.

Developers would be spared the “translation” of Windows games to Linux

Based on the information in the session, the session will describe in detail “Google’s solution to run Windows games without mods on StadiaThat way, they promise at Google, “developers will be able to better understand these technologies and potentially create their own.”

Everything points to Google would have created its own Windows emulator on Linuxand if that development ends up coming to Stadia, that would give the possibility of many more games ending up appearing on the service in the future.

From Amazon Luna to Stadia: Which Cloud Gaming Platform is Right for Which Type of Gamer

Stadia is based on Linux and the games had to be “translated” to this operating system in order to be supported on the platform. Although alliances with Unreal or Unity made the road easier, the developers had to contribute some work too for the process.

With this emulator that transition would be straightforward: developers would not have to adapt their Windows games to Linux because emulator or compatibility layer would take care of everything.

The idea is similar to the one that Valve has with Protonthe compatibility layer that allows you to run hundreds of Windows video games directly on Linux through a modified version of the well-known Wine project.

That is actually the basis of their Steam Deck, so it will be interesting to see what Google prepares in this regard and if that compatibility layer behaves well. and without detriment to the user experience.
