Short of a foldable iPhone, new rumors suggest Apple is working on a foldable MacBook (not coming anytime soon)

Rivers of ink have been written about the foldable iPhone. Little is known about this device, to say nothing, beyond the tentative date slipped by Ming-Chi Kuo: 2023. Now it is Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), who ensures that Apple is not only working on a folding iPhone, but also on a MacBook.

According to Young, this folding MacBook would have a 20-inch 4K or 5K display that would fold like so many other options that we have already seen. The CEO envisions that the folding panel would have various uses, such as accessing a full keyboard when folded (like a laptop) or turning it into an all-in-one when unfolded.

Rumors for many years

According to the CEO of DSCC, this device could form a new product category. It would not be for less, since it would be the most radical design change that the MacBook would suffer in years. In any case, it is something that is still far away. The date that Young puts on the table is after 2025 and up to 2027So we’ll have to wait.

And it is that although folding mobiles are already something to which we are fairly accustomed, the truth is that folding laptops we have seen few. There are a few options, like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold or the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, but it’s still a budding product category.

As far as the folding iPhone is concerned, the date that was being considered was 2023. However, Ross Young slides that this device will not arrive until 2025. In other words, its launch would have been delayed by at least two years. However, all we “know” about the foldable iPhone (and now the MacBook) are just rumors and leaks, but nothing official.

The hinges have become the best kept secret of folding mobiles and, perhaps, the secret of their success

As for Ross Young’s reliability as a “leaker”, it is not Ming-Chi Kuo, but his track record is decent. Young accurately anticipated the arrival of the ProMotion screen to the iPhone 13 ProiPad mini screen size, the mini-LED panels of the MacBook Pro and, recently, he has said that the iPhone 14 Pro will leave aside the notch for bet on a perforated panel.
