Samsung will bring its ambitious 200 MP sensor to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, according to ET News

The 108 MP sensors have become a kind of standard for high-end mobiles, with some exceptions such as the iPhone, which preferred not to participate in the megapixel war. Now according to ETNewsSamsung is ready to take the photography capabilities of its most premium device to the next level.

The South Korean manufacturer, according to the report, is in the final stages of developing a 200 MP camera for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. If this becomes a reality, and if no other brand comes before it, the aforementioned device could boast the highest resolution smartphone camera on the market.

Samsung already has a 200 MP sensor

Before contemplating the idea of building a phone with a 200 MP camera, the manufacturer must take into account several factors: that there is a photographic sensor with those characteristics and that it has powerful processors that support that resolution. Let us remember that the sensor is an element that detects and converts light waves into digital signals.

If we take this scenario to Samsung, we find that last year it presented its SOCELL HP1, a 200 MP sensor designed for mobile devices. In addition, the electronics giant has access to its own Exynos processors such as the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon, which could move the images captured by this type of sensor and get the most out of them.

In this sense, part of the conditions would be given for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is expected in 2023, to adopt a 200 MP main sensor. This would be the first major camera change in over three years, as the manufacturer has been using 108 MP sensors since the original Galaxy S20 Ultra introduced in 2020.

For now, it only remains to wait to know what the movement of the South Korean company will be, and of others as well. Let us remember that Samsung, together with Sony, supply sensors to other smartphone manufacturers. This opens the door for another brand to also adopt the SOCELL HP1 in their smartphones and make a leap in megapixels.

Rumors seem to indicate that we are getting closer to a new generation of mobile phones with important changes in the cameras. Even Apple, which had been very conservative in this regard, could say goodbye in part to the 12 MP that have accompanied its terminals for years and could release 48 MP sensors on the iPhone 14 Pro.
