Renfe launches Dōcō, a “comprehensive mobility platform” to travel combining trains, VTC, scooters, motorcycles and more

Renfe has just announced the launch of Dōcō, a “comprehensive mobility platform” that allows, or rather, will allow, to book all types of transport from the same application. Among the means of transport mentioned are the motorcycles, scooters, taxis, trains, VTC and, soon, buses, bicycles and subways.

The application will be launched “in the coming weeks” and the truth is that Renfe has been a bit sparing in details. However, from the company they point out that they are “the first mobility service in Spain that seeks to promote the public and private sector collaboration“, integrating “a wide variety of transport to offer the most sustainable mobility options possible in the country”.

How it works and what is Dōcō for?

Dōcō, whose name comes from the words “dowhere?” andcomo?”, is an aggregator of means of transport for door-to-door travel, at least on paper. By logging into the application, we can set our preferences (fast, cheap or sustainable trips) and choose the origin and destination.

When we choose both points, the application will suggest the most complete route with different means of transport. For example, an electric scooter from your house to the station, an AVE to the other city and a bicycle from the AVE station to the final destination. Or at least that is the operation suggested by the screenshots published on the web.

We already know how much a Spaniard saves on transportation thanks to teleworking (and at the end of the year it is a lot)

Among the services that appear in the screenshots are Reby, Cooltra, Bolt, AVE, Media Distancia, Cercanías and Alvia. Basically, the app is a macro-aggregator of different public and private services. These services are paid for and reserved from the app, but we still do not know the full list of available mobility companies.

According to the company, it will be possible to use Dōcō “in any city or town in Spain. With Dōcō you can get from any origin to any destination within the national territory”, but they clarify that only in the Iberian Peninsula.

At the moment, we will have to wait to see how it works, but the truth is that, at least on paper, it does not look bad. we still have to wait a few weeks until the app launches.
