Prime Video puts all the meat on the grill

After a few trailers that had been criticized for being lukewarm or for not fully reflecting Tolkien’s Middle-earth, and after the excellent initial results of ‘Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon’ have been made public, Prime Video shows everything its approach to Middle-earth has to offer with a spectacular trailer for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’. The clash of fantasy series this fall has intensified.

As with the HBO Max series, we are facing a prequel: we are going to the Second Age of Middle-earth, where we will not see all the characters we met in Tolkien’s books or Peter Jackson’s movies, but we will see some like Galadriel or Elrond, in younger versions. But we already knew that: the important thing about the trailer is how it strives to make it clear that it wants to become a version of Tolkien on a par with the previous trilogy.

For this, the trailer does not put the emphasis on the story, which at this point is still largely unknown, but on the action, which will abound although it is clear that it will dispense with the violence and viscerality of Jackson’s films, as well as in the variety of characters, settings and situations that we will experience. The trailer makes a long journey through all kinds of settings and characters, and highlights the familiar aerial shots in the style, again, of those that made the movies starring Elijah Wood famous.

'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', everything we know about the new Prime Video series based on the works of Tolkien

This September 2, the series will arrive on Prime Video, after the announcement that the episodes’ broadcast rate was slightly changed to counter-schedule ‘The House of the Dragon’ and not coincide with its final week. The images in this trailer corroborate that we are facing a whiter and more familiar fantasy, so we may not see fierce competition, but the possibility of a balanced coexistence. We will see if both survive the feat.
