Pockit, the minicomputer that we can customize to our liking with different magnetic modules

  • 44

Raspberry Pi computers are among the most basic that we can find, but they are also the heart of projects that are as nice as they are ingenious. A clear example of this is Pockit, a device that allows us to “mold” it to taste with different function modules.

It is the brainchild of a developer named Anil Reddy. The young man has given himself the task of making the most of the possibilities offered by the GPIO support of the Raspberry, which basically allows them to be configured for different purposes instead of a specific one.

A minicomputer with a Raspberry Pi CM4 heart

Pockit has a 3D printed main box that houses, among other electronic components, a Raspberry Pi CM4 with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A72 processor and a base with magnetic contacts that allows you to interact with more than 80 function modules.

Among the modules we find an SD card reader, an HDMI connector, various types of cameras, a rotary encoder, LED lights, mechanical accessories and more. We can choose a handful of them and, by combining them, put together completely different devices.

For example, if we want to turn the main board into a handheld mini computer we could choose a QWERTY keyboard, a screen, a battery and a Wi-Fi receiver. Ready! Since each module starts working instantly, we would already have a Linux computer for different tasks.

We could also make the Pockit transform into an IoT device that supports Alexa voice commands. We could use it as an automatic soap dispenser even to program and regulate the intensity of the lighting in our house.

Pockit Modular Minicomputer

The versatility of the Pockit hardware is necessarily complemented by a great deal of programming work. The Linux system has a control panel so that we can monitor and configure the behavior of the different connected modules.

The device we saw in the video is a demo, but Reddy plans to continue working on his project and later sell it. At the moment we do not know what its price will be or when it can be purchased, but we can visit developer page for more information.
