The Chinese proposal to face the Quest 2

Let’s start with the design of the new Pico 4, the glasses that seek to compete against the Quest 2. We know that incorporating virtual reality hardware into these devices is not an easy task. A balance must be maintained between performance, comfort, size and weight.

The Chinese company says its glasses have a design that distributes weight evenly between the front and rear ends. The front part, where the display components are located, promises to fit comfortably on the face, while the back part is padded to improve support.

Inside we find two 2.56-inch LCD screens that, according to the technical sheet, offer a resolution of more than 2K per eye and 1200 PPI. The refresh rate rises to 90 Hz and the field of view is 105 °. The device also has a 5,300 mAh battery that promises to use it for “long periods of time.”

Pico points out that its new glasses incorporate a high-precision environment tracking system and an infrared optical positioning system so that real-world gestures are represented in virtual reality. The company also offers a motion tracker that can be purchased separately and can be strapped to the legs to “capture every move.”

The glasses also have built-in speakers that support spatial audio. The controls, for their part, in addition to incorporating the classic action buttons and sticks, are equipped with a haptic feedback system from 50Hz-500Hz.

At the software level, the Pico 4 works with PICO OS 5.0, an OS that has an application store and games to run directly from the glasses. However, they can also be connected to a computer for a high-end virtual reality experience.

Price and availability of the Pico 4

As we mentioned above, the Pico 4 will arrive in Europe. General pre-orders will start in October and shipments on October 18. The prices will be the following:

Peak 4 8+128GB: 429 euros

Peak 4 8+256GB: 499 euros
