The London Metropolitan Police have arrested seven people between the ages of 16 and 21 who would be linked to the Lapsus$ group. These would be the hackers who have recently become known for infiltrating companies like Microsoft, Nvidia, Samsung and Okta.

as collected the bbc, the authorities did not name Lapsus$ and decided not to reveal the identity of the detainees. However, they assure that the arrests respond to an ongoing investigation to find the members of “a piracy group”.

detained and released

Detective Inspector Michael O’Sullivan explained that the seven people arrested last Thursday have already been released and that no charges have been filed against them. He also pointed out that they continue to be linked to the investigation carried out together with other security forces.

The arrests came just hours after Bloomberg described the Lapsus$ leader as a 17-year-old Englishman who lives with his mother near Oxford. The medium indicated that the hacker would have been using the nickname “WhiteDoxbin” and that he would work together with another teenager who lives in Brazil.

The group Lapsus$ came out in December 2021, when it primarily focused on targeting organizations in the UK and Brazil. But as the months went by, his orbit of action grew until it reached multinational companies.

Lapsus$ showed himself with a profile opposite to that of many other hackers. He uses a Telegram channel that has more than 48,000 subscribers to ask who his next victim should be and even to announce that some members of the team are taking vacations.

In addition to resorting to social engineering to break systems, its modus operandi includes the pay employees or insiders of the companies and convince them to provide them with their access credentials and thus access the servers.

At the moment, Lapsus$ seems to be strictly complying with his vacation period, since he has not posted on his Telegram channel again. Will they return to their adventures, will they give them up or will they be arrested before? We don’t know, we just have to wait.
