On the verge of turning 39 years since he won the victory in the Paris-Dakar Rallythe most famous off-road competition in the world, Porsche announces that it will launch a new all-terrain version of its Porsche 911. It will be called Porsche 911 Dakar and everything indicates that it will be a success again.

In 1984, one of the most impressive images in the history of this adventure was produced in the Paris-Dakar Rally. A Porsche 911 swallowed dunes one by one until it achieved what seemed impossible: victory.

The photography could not be more exotic. A supercar that in the collective imagination had no place outside the asphalt jumping between the dunes. Sweeping everything that was put ahead to get to Dakar in the shortest possible time.

A milestone that had already been warned in 1978 at the Safari Rally. Six years earlier, the Germans had already made their Porsche 911 fly over the Kenyan tracks in one of the toughest and most demanding rally events in the world. That Porsche 911 with imposing protections in the front light groups and the Martini decoration is motorsport history.

The most adventurous Porsche 911 will cost almost $300,000

Porsche has decided to revive this myth under the name Porsche 911 Dakar, a tribute to the Dakar winner who also went down in history for being the first all-wheel drive Porschecalled 953. For now, production will be limited to 2,500 units and will be priced at 256,042 euros, to which another 29,729 euros must be added if the Rally Design Pack is chosen.

Porsche’s idea is to offer a supercar that is also off-road. They ensure that it can reach up to 170 km/h top speed with the highest possible suspension, which already grows by 50 mm compared to the maximum offered by a Porsche Carrera with sports suspension and an additional 30 mm at the front ends and butts.

As it could not be otherwise, every detail has been thought of. Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires (in size 245/45 ZR 19 at the front and 295/40 ZR 20 at the rear), with a tread width of nine millimeters, 12-volt socket for the luggage rack headlights optional and 42 kg permissible weight. It can even be ordered as an option with tent.

The benefits at the height of a supercar. Three-liter biturbo six-cylinder engine with a power of 480 HP that allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 240 km/h. It’s paired with an eight-speed PDK gearbox and, of course, all-wheel drive with specific drive modes for your off-road adventures.

One day in 1978, Porsche tried to reach 240 km/h... with a bicycle. And he ended up getting it

In addition, the Pack Rally Design package simulates the mythical decoration of rothmans, combining white and blue and with the inscription Roughroads, which means “bad roads”, replacing the name of the tobacco company. In addition, it accompanies the legendary 953 in homage to the Porsche 911 that crossed the finish line first in the African city.
