Finetwork wants to reach one million customers. To achieve this, he has saved an ace up his sleeve: Amazon

  • 10

Although in its beginnings it maintained a local operator profile, Finetwork began its national expansion in 2019 and, today, it is already has exceeded 875,000 customers, thus becoming one of the main operators in the country. To do this, they have resorted to numerous sports sponsorships, such as that of the Spanish National Team, ambassadors such as Joaquín and a multitude of promotions to attract customers.

The last one is launched today and consists of the gift of an annual subscription to Amazon Prime in some of its rates. This agreement with Amazon marks a turning point in the strategy of Finetwork and it may not be the last any time soon. Its CEO, Manuel Hernández, has already warned us that they were working on new services and he has recognized that energy is in his sights.

One year of Amazon Prime free

As of today, in exchange for a one-year stay, the operator will give new and existing customers a 12-month subscription to Amazon Prime in three rates of its catalogue:

  • Fiber 300 Mbps + Mobile 55 GB: 34.90 euros per month with a 12-month Amazon Prime subscription as a gift.

  • Only Mobile 50 GB: 14.90 euros per month with a 12-month Amazon Prime subscription as a gift.

  • Only Mobile 100 GB: 19.90 euros per month with a 12-month Amazon Prime subscription as a gift.

Amazon

Why these three rates and not others? Manuel Hernández, CEO of Finetwork, has explained to us that his main intention is to boost the mobile-only segment, which is the one that premium operators tend to neglect. And they have chosen their two most ambitious mobile-only plans, the 50 GB and the 100 GB plans, because it must be sustainable for the company to maintain that promotion.

Finetwork does not rule out extending the promotion to more rates and it is very likely that we will see how little by little it is reaching the rest of the fiber + mobile plans

In addition, they also want to try it in their most popular fiber + mobile rate (300 Mbps + 55 GB) and they do not rule out extending the promotion to all their packages. In fact, he tells us that it is very likely that we will see how the promotion gradually reaches the rest of the fiber + mobile plans.

Why Amazon and not an OTT as it has done Pepephone with Netflix? According to Manuel Hernández, “Amazon is a very complete platform with many value-added services and it has a long way to go in market penetration”. In addition, “it has an attractive content proposal and is not as present as Netflix, HBO or Disney + in so many operators”.

Self-consumption of energy is part of your plans

In addition to free shipping, as we know, the Prime subscription includes access to Amazon Photos, Amazon Prime Music and Prime Video, the platform’s video streaming service. Is this agreement a first step for Finetwork to end up offering television? Manuel admits that it is: “our intention is to continue growing in value-added services.”

He admits that Finetwork’s plans do not involve creating a television platform like the one that premium operators have (read Movistar Plus+, Orange TV or Vodafone TV), but rather propose customizable and flexible servicesthat is, that each user can hire what they really need.

Are we talking about services such as alarms, energy, health, etc.? The CEO of Finetwork explains that they are currently working on more agreements to offer something differential and have alternatives for different types of users. Among these alternatives are the agreement they already have with DKV in health and with Legálitas; They want to promote the latter by incorporating it into their rates again.

Who knows if we will soon have among us a new competitor to Movistar/Repsol and Yoigo as far as the installation of solar panels is concerned

But there is something else. Manuel Hernández has recognized us that they are studying solutions related to the energy sector, but “not as a marketer, but more focused on self-consumption”. His intention is to reach an agreement to announce it in the short term. Who knows if soon we will have among us a new competitor of Movistar/Repsol and EnergyGO Solar as regards the installation of solar panels.

All this has a clear objective that we have mentioned before: to boost customer acquisition. The goal set for 2022 was to exceed one million customers (now they have 875,000), but Manuel Hernández sees it as almost impossible to achieve this year: “We hope that the agreement with Amazon and what we are going to announce soon will help us reach that figure by beginning of 2023”.
