The Renault’s first electric SUV is already in Spain. The 100% electric Megane E-TECH is one of the French brand’s most serious bets to convince users looking for an electric car. We are facing a more compact model than the current one, with a generous wheelbase and various configurations with up to 218 hp.

With characteristics similar to the Volkswagen ID.3, the new Mégane is a compact sedan that debuts the CMF-EV modular platform, promises a range of up to 470 kilometers and reaches very well equipped with technology with the incorporation of OpenR, a new system developed with Google and based on Android Automotive OS.

Designed with the electric car in mind

The 100% electric Megane E-TECH comes in two versions. The first one with a 130 hp motor coupled to a 40 kWh battery and a second version with a 60 kWh battery and a 218 hp motor. The first of them offers a range, under the WLTP cycle, of 300 kilometers, while the second promises a range of up to 470 kilometers.

According to Renault, the new engine is more compact, with up to 10% less weight than the ZOE. At the acceleration level, the new Mégane is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.

It has regenerative braking and an ultra-thin 110mm battery, 40% smaller than the ZOE E-Tech. This allows the height of the vehicle is 1.50 meters high and a weight of 395 kg.

The dimensions of the E-tech are relatively slim. At 4.20 meters long, a wheelbase of 2.7 meters and a trunk with a volume of 440 litersexpandable up to 1,332 liters with the seats lowered.

Being an electric car, it comes with an automatic gearbox and a zero environmental label. For safety, it has a special access for the battery to firefighters, to be able to contain the flames quickly. The batteries are guaranteed for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers. In case of degrading below 70%, Renault will change them free of charge.

As for electric recharging, the 100% electric Megane E-TECH is compatible with continuous recharging of up to 130kW. According to the company, with a public point of 22 kW it is possible to obtain about 160 kilometers of autonomy in one hour. Renault offers special access to the Mobilize Charge Pass network, with 2,600 points in Spain.

Renault has put a lot of focus on the technological part of its new electric. The Mégane incorporates micro-optic LED taillights, engravings on the door sill guards and an air vent grille. Dispose of automatically activated door handles and quite curved lines.

But if there is something that differentiates it, it is the presentation of the OpenR screen, an instrument panel and central screen that was already seen in prototypes such as the Morphoz and that offers a 12.3 inch image with 1,920 x 720 pixels and another 12-inch multimedia screen in vertical format with 1,250 x 1,562 pixels. A panel that in the basic version is reduced to 9 inches.

OpenR is a system based on the third generation of Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit, with eight cores and includes aids such as the Around View Monitor 3D when we want to go in reverse or see what is around the vehicle. It’s about a system with Google integrated and based on Android Automotive OS, an evolution of Android Auto.

In terms of equipment and driving aids, the Mégane comes with tools for level 2 semi-autonomous drivingsuch as lane centering, intelligent speed limiter or parking assistant.

Versions and price of the 100% electric Megane E-TECH

The Megane E-TECH 100% is already available in Spain in six different colors: ‘zinc’ grey, ‘slate’ grey, ‘night’ blue, ‘wish’ red, ‘glossy’ black and ‘glacier’ white. The new electric Mégane comes with 18-inch or 20-inch tires and two different rims for each size, with the Renault logo in the center.

E-TECH EV40 model is available from 35,200 euros without taking into account the aid, while the version with 60 kWh of battery and greater power can be purchased from 41,700 euros.
