LaLiga has achieved a new victory in court against illegal broadcasts of football matches. The Court No. 1 of Zamora has sentenced the owner of the website latele.tv to 6 months in prison and a fine of 90,000 euros for a crime against intellectual property by retransmitting matches over the internet without a license, according to the sports institution in a note.

It is not the first time that the Spanish justice condemns individuals related to the illegal retransmission of football matches. In 2019, a court in Malaga already fined almost half a million euros to the members of a network dedicated to the sale of decoders that illegally broadcast different content, including LaLiga matches, according to Today newspaper reported.

Also, last January we knew that the Provincial Court of A Coruña opened legal proceedings against the creators of the original Rojadirecta website, for which its creator, Igor Seoane, is facing a fine of six million euros and a sentence of six years in prison. It is estimated that Seoane would have obtained around 11 million euros with the page while she was active.

On the other hand, in December 2021 LaLiga achieved another important advance against the illegal broadcasting of matches by getting the Commercial Court number 6 of Barcelona to allow several of the main internet operators in Spain (Vodafone, Orange, MásMóvil) to block weekly the new web pages detected by the Spanish football institution, owner of its broadcasting rights.

With the ruling of the Barcelona Court, LaLiga and Movistar+ obtained the authorization to request the immediate blocking of new domains each week that they identify as linked to platforms without broadcast rights. Previously, another similar ruling from the Madrid commercial court in February 2020 also allowed Telefónica to block this type of page.
