Disney + premieres August 2022: news

  • 6

Disney does not want to leave room for the pace to slow down and this month of August will bring the return of new proposals from its great franchises. We have both the latest Marvel and Star Wars series as well as the return of the Predator saga with a prequel released directly on streaming. Also joining the platform is the latest Pixar film that had the opportunity to go to theaters, ‘Lighyear’. These are the Disney + proposals for this August.

premiere series

‘She-Hulk: Lawyer She-Hulk’

The simplest scenario for ‘She-Hulk: Lawyer Hulka’ is not presented, adding at the same time a certain impatience about the direction that phase 4 of the Marvel Studios universe is taking and the criticized CGI that was seen in the trailers (which then it has been improved in subsequent high resolution images). Nor does it seem that it will be the most suitable series to exchange impressions and calm the anxieties of the most restless fans, since the series with Tatiana Maslany seeks the lightness and judicial drama that have characterized the line of the character in the comics. This is still Marvel though, and there will probably be times of trying to connect to the “main plot” (hence the presence of Daredevil in the most recent trailer), especially with the presence of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

Following the not entirely successful -being generous- attempts this year to continue exploring the Star Wars universe through the series, as were the cases of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, comes the prequel from the prequel. Specifically, we are talking about ‘Andor’, the series that will follow the character of Diego Luna from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ in his clandestine adventures during the formation of the Rebellion. The previews shown seem to relapse into the darker and more morally ambiguous character towards which the film wanted to point, although it fell a bit halfway. Like ‘She-Hulk’, it has had the thankless task of refreshing interest in the franchise on the small screen, but this one has plenty of potential to do just that.

After a more than disappointing passage through movie theaters -something especially serious since it was Pixar’s return to them since the start of the pandemic-, it finally reaches streaming ‘lightyear‘, the movie that “inspired” the toy we all know from ‘Toy Story’. Leaving aside the most depressing controversies surrounding its inclusion, the film proposes a classic adventurous space fantasy and science fiction, which plays with some details that the most fans of the toy saga will recognize and incorporates some discoveries such as that assistant robot cat that steals all the scenes.

‘Predator: The Prey’

Some time after Shane Black’s failed attempt to restart the franchise started by ‘Predator’ 25 years ago, comes a direct-to-streaming prequel from Dan Trachtenberg, the director of the wonderful ’10 Cloverfield Street’. After a long period without directing a film, he returns to the fore with another science fiction film that bets on recovering the touch of horror and survival, taking the action to the Comanche region of 300 years ago. Judging by the first reactions, it seems that ‘Predator: Prey’ is successful in its task of trying to revitalize the franchise.
