The best of Xiaomi for the first half of 2022 is here. They are the new Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12. Its two flagships with which it will try to gain a foothold in the high-end. And in this usual battle to become the most interesting mobile, it is useful to have a comparison of features at hand.

Here we leave you with the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12 against the best phones on the market. A review of its technical specifications that will not help us to know all its details, but we do hope that it will serve to get a good picture of how the battle is with the arrival of Xiaomi’s ‘flagship’.

We have pitted the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12 against the following smartphones:

The design becomes especially important in the high range

The high-end is the one that adds the best processors and the best cameras, but the design section is also extremely important. And here the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 also want to be up to the best. This year debut a new design, with a matte finish available in three colors that eliminates the presence of fingerprints and offers a different touch.

Xiaomi 12 Design

Between one and the other there is a considerable difference in size. While the Pro model goes to 6.73″, the Xiaomi 12 stays at a relatively compact 6.28 inches. The two panels are 120 Hz and AMOLED, being the difference in resolution, which the Pro model goes up to 2K. If what we want is to find the best panel, it will be the Pro model that is closest to its rivals. A screen that in the Pro incorporates LTPO and 1,000 nits.

Xiaomi 12 Pro, Xiaomi's weapon to conquer the high-end in 2022

The body of the Xiaomi 12 is relatively compact and light, although in line with its rivals. They are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, although curiously they do not add IP68 certification for water resistance, as practically everyone has. It is striking that Xiaomi has decided not to incorporate this protection; one of those extras that are very well received in the high range.

Xiaomi 12 5

Xiaomi has renewed the design for its high-end, with the addition of an AMOLED LTPO 2K panel, a matte finish and a much higher fast charge than its rivals thanks to its Surge P1 chip. At the cost of losing some capacity.

In the battery is where we surely have the most differential battle with respect to the competition. While many flagships like the Galaxy S22 Ultra or the OPPO Find X5 Pro add 5,000 mAh, the Xiaomi 12 Pro it stays at a similar 4,600 mAh that comes along with 120 W fast charging to complete the battery in 17 minutes. By comparison, the Xiaomi 12 and its 67W takes about 39 minutes. The difference in battery is there, but predictably factors such as software optimization end up weighing more when it comes to getting more hours of use.

The secret of this fast charge is found in the Surge P1 chip, a processor dedicated to fast charging without overheating. As Xiaomi explains, the mobile will not exceed 43ºC at any time, even playing.

The latest from Qualcomm and good cooling

Xiaomi 12 7

Once again, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the processor that will move the high-end of 2022. Xiaomi bets on the latest Qualcomm chipset, manufactured in 4 nanometers and with eight cores of up to 3 GHz. It is the same processor as most of its rivals, from the Realme GT2 Pro to the OnePlus 10 Pro, with exceptions like the Galaxy S22 Ultra or iPhone 13 Pro Max that add their own chipsets.

Accompanying we have versions with 8 and 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, along with storage that starts at 128 GB and goes up to 256 GB UFS 3.1. Here there are few differences between models, although we see that Contrary to Apple or Samsung, Xiaomi still does not offer 512 GB in its flagship.

Another of the improvements of the Xiaomi 12 is its cooling system, with a LiquidCool system that has a 2,600mm2 heatsink and a 10,000mm2 graphite area. Regarding connectivity, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro come with 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and Wi-Fi 6E supportthe latter a standard that not all brands incorporate.

Triple 50 megapixel camera with the best Sony sensors

Xiaomi Camera

The photographic section of the Xiaomi 12 is the point where they want to stand out from their competitors. And unlike other years, Xiaomi does not continue with the megapixel war. Instead, go for a triple-camera setup with Sony’s best sensors.

The Xiaomi 12 adds a 50-megapixel IMX766 main sensor and an f/1.9 lens. The company explains that they incorporate Pro Focus technology to achieve a higher focus speed. Comes with a 13 megapixel ultra wide angle and a 5 megapixel macro.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro with its triple 50 megapixel camera and IMX707 sensor has the ingredients to compete against the best mobile cameras on the market. In the absence of checking its processing, only in the telephoto section would we say that it lacks one more gear.

But if we want to compete in pure specifications, it is the Pro model that tries to match the rest by adding a triple 50 megapixel camera, with the IMX707 sensor as corner piece. It is the same sensor that OPPO adds, for example, to its flagship. Compared to that, the Xiaomi 12 Pro incorporates an angle with a greater field of vision and a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. Three cameras that support photo in night mode.

Xiaomi stays one point below in telephoto, where the Pixel 6 Pro or the Galaxy S22 Ultra lead. In exchange, they incorporate a state-of-the-art main sensor that should offer good results.

Xiaomi goes up a level, but defends its “honest pricing policy”

Xiaomi 12 2

The new Xiaomi 12 will be available in dark gray, blue and purple from this March. Xiaomi has raised the price of its flagships compared to what we had last year, but they continue to defend an “honest pricing policy”.

Xiaomi finds itself in tricky terrain. She still offers better prices than many of her rivals, but has raised the bar enough to drop the quality/price talk.

Compared to the OPPO Find X5 Pro or Galaxy S22 Ultra, these Xiaomi are cheaper. Not so with respect to the Realme GT2 Pro that wants to take away from Xiaomi the brand title with the most economical ‘flagship’. Xiaomi has leveled up. It will be necessary to see if it continues to maintain the throne of manufacturer with better quality/price.
