bends (and breaks) quite easily

The OnePlus 10 Pro was presented at the beginning of the year with the promise of becoming a clear benchmark for the high-end of 2022. Everything about it seems to validate that promise, but a video analysis has revealed something worrying: the OnePlus 10 Pro bends and breaks surprisingly easily.

The popular youtuber Zack Nelson, from the channel “JerryRigEverything”, got a model and after some durability tests of the screen or its sides, disaster struck when testing its chassis: folded and snapped the OnePlus Pro 10 in half without too much effort.

Crack

The new high-end model from OnePlus arrives with a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen and refresh rates of up to 120 Hz, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 12 GB of LPDDR5 memory and a triple system (48 + 50 + 8 MP) of rear cameras that certainly promise.

So does its 5,000 mAh battery that allows fast charging at 80 W and fast wireless charging at 50 W. Precisely the battery has a lot to do with the problem of the durability of this smartphone.

This was demonstrated by Nelson. When picking up the OnePlus 10 Pro and applying some pressure, the glass back cover got cracks. When he did the pressure on the opposite side, on the screen, he suddenly snapped the phone without apparently making too much effort.

The normal thing is that the mobiles resist this type of tests, but there have been famous cases of durability issues like the one suffered by the iPhone 6, for example. The surprise is that at this point a mobile like the OnePlus 10 Pro, which theoretically should take these scenarios into account, bends and breaks with this ease.

Once the phone was broken, Nelson took the opportunity to “gut” it by removing the back cover with distressing ease. In doing so he verified how battery placement – whose stop coincides with the position of the side volume buttons – helps to reduce the risk of the mobile bending and breaking.

It is true that users do not usually expose their mobile phones to these pressures, but it is true that, for example, when carrying them in the back trouser pocket and sitting can pose dangerous situations for those smartphones.

In Xataka we have contacted the responsible for OnePlus in Spain for more details about the problem. If we receive new data, we will update this topic.
