off-road design

The rise of telematic procedures, tablets, eBooks, and other digital solutions, have gradually made having a printer at home begin to sound archaic. Nevertheless, there are still a handful of them installed in many homesand firms such as HP, along with Epson, or Canon, among others, are the architects of printers continuing to accompany us at home.

In the case of the Envy Inspire 7920e, we find a gigantic model with a double tray and a multitude of mechanical parts that make it a true printing monster, especially for occasions in which we have to print a large number of sheets.

HP 9

Its large design prepares this printer for all kinds of functions, obtaining a large paper storage tray that feeds the printer internally without having to leave the sheets out (ADF function).

As usually happens in this type of printers, we find a double opening design. In this way, we have access to the scanner, and also to the interior of the printer itself if we uncover the front trim. It is here where we can access the cartridges to change them easily, or replace a part in case of failure.

HP 6

To copy pages we must place the sheets in the upper part of the printer, while if we print a document from a PC or a mobile, we will have to reload the lower sheet tray.

The printer is quite heavy, everything must be said. Although it is somewhat logical, taking into account the dimensions. In total they are just over 8 kg, 10 kg if we have the packaging.

HP 11

The control of the printer through the screen is very intuitive, practically as if it were a mobile phone

As with printers in this range, the HP Envy Inspire 7920e also features a 2.7-inch LCD touch panel in which we will control any parameter. Although you have to wait a while for the checks to finish and for everything to be ready, controlling the printer through the screen is very intuitive, practically as if it were a mobile phone. In addition, we can tilt the screen up for greater reading comfort.

Under the panel we also find three touch buttons. One of them to go back, another to go home, and one dedicated to providing information. Although the operation of the panel is not as fluid as we would like due to the limited memory and speed of the processor, for the functions of a printer it is enough for us.

A fast and efficient printer

Reviewing what this printer can offer us at the level of specifications, we have that its monthly duty cycle for A4 is about 1,000 pages, with a recommended monthly page volume of between 300 and 400 pages. It is a standard figure that many manufacturers have adopted for those who use the printer more extensively.

In terms of print speed, the HP Envy Inspire 7920e is capable of reaching 15ppm (pages per minute) for A4 black and white prints. If we go to color, the figure decreases to 10 ppm. For printing on photographic paper, we would be talking about a photo in about 40-45 seconds in color.

HP 5

The speed depends on the mode in which we are printing. And it is that the HP Envy Inspire 7920e has a silent mode in which it reduces the noise to remove the leaves at the cost of making it somewhat slower. The option can be found in the settings, although it is also possible to activate it while the printer is working.

As we mentioned before, the printer has a double tray. In the main we can load the tank with up to 125 sheets, which will be inserted into the printer to be ready as much as you need. If we talk about photo paper, we can load up to 55 sheets, and if it is a 4 x 6 photo, up to 15.

Injection, laser and LED: differences between the different types of printers

Among the featured copier settings, the HP Envy Inspire 7920e incorporates the ability to print duplex, collate, crop, resize, lightness settings, and move margins, among others. We can make a maximum of 50 copies at one time. If we need more copies of a sheet, we will have to repeat the process.

Something that the HP Envy Inspire 7920e does not incorporate is a USB or SD card reader to print images or documents that we have on storage systems that make use of these ports, whether they are pen drives, or SD memory cards, etc.

Print quality up to par

The print quality of the HP Envy Inspire 7920e is more than decent, being able to get rich color results, while we have clean and clear black and white prints. For text printing, we are not surprised by its magnificent performance, being a complete all-rounder.

The print resolution reaches 1,200 x 1,200 dpi reproduction, while color we get up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi. The quality may differ from the device where the print is being made. In this way, the last figure mentioned refers to if we do it from a computer and with an input resolution of 1,200 dpi. For copies, the quality reaches 600 dpi.

Avoiding the condemnation of ink cartridges: HP, Epson, Canon and Brother propose increasingly interesting alternatives

The quality is scalable, having three modes to modify it: draft, normal, optimal. In addition, we can also modify the print quality when working in grayscale, being able to print in high quality grayscale, or use only black ink.

Full software experience

The interface that HP usually incorporates into printers in this range is quite intuitive. Just as if it were a mobile phone, we can navigate through its different menus, with blocks for printing, copying, or scanning in a very clear and differentiated way. In addition, also incorporates a notification panel where we can have quick access to the alerts or problems that the system finds.

The experience expands if we also use the HP Smart app, which provides us with a good number of functions if we use the printer from the mobile phone or tablet.

In the printer configuration section we can find a multitude of quite useful options, both for printing, and for accessibility and connectivity. Here we can find everything from maintenance options such as knowing the ink level, cleaning the cartridges, or aligning them, to programming settings for silent mode, being able to choose the hours in which we want the printer to work in this mode.

HP 4

The options that HP offers us in this aspect are very varied and complete. Also, the experience expands if we also use the HP Smart appwhich gives us a good number of functions if we use the printer from the mobile phone or tablet.

With HP Smart we can print documents and images from the mobile, being able to configure certain parameters of the printer and others. We also have the option of scan from the phone’s own camerauseful for when we have to make a copy of our DNI, or any other document.

HP 3

From the app we also have access to know the ink levels of our printer. However, to make use of all these types of options through the app, it will be necessary have an HP account and add the printer through the PIN that appears next to the serial number.

The printer is also suitable for the service of HP Instant Ink, where the manufacturer offers us ink automatically when it is verified that the ink levels in the printer are running low. To access it, we need to pay a monthly payment, although if we are HP+ users, the first six months of Instant Ink are free. This last subscription is necessary if we want to print from anywhere in the world through the cloud.

The problem with Instant Ink and HP+ is the insistence that the manufacturer has to make use of its services, because from HP they will not stop suggesting this service to us while we use the app or the printer. In addition, the installation of HP Smart is accompanied by additional and necessary plugins to be able to print from the app, making the start-up somewhat cumbersome. Having an account is also necessary if we want to update the firmware of the printer.

HP Envy Inspire 7920e, Xataka’s opinion

HP offers with its Envy Inspire 7920e a complete system that It will allow us to print, copy and scan with great printing quality and speed more than acceptable. In addition, we have the HP Smart app with which we can use our mobile phone or tablet to print or scan documents. If together with this we subscribe to the HP+ or Instant Ink service, we will obtain ink when we run out, and cloud service to print from anywhere, two advantages that, despite HP’s excessive insistence on testing this service, It is true that it pays off.

The printer is very easy to set up, and through its LCD touch screen we can access a good handful of options, being able to navigate through its interface as if it were a mobile phone. In addition, we have a silent mode to disturb just when we are printing, something to be thankful for, considering how noisy these devices usually are.
