After the tunnels they have in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, The Boring Company wants to expand to Miami. Elon Musk’s project to create gigantic underground tunnels for cars to circulate was very promising to eliminate traffic jams, but the results they are being the least questionable.

Now the company has submitted its proposal for build a 6.2-mile (about 10-kilometer) underground tunnel under the city of Miamias revealed Insider. A project in the style of The Loop, where they will use their advanced excavators to build a tunnel through which cars pass and there are different stations.

Seven stations for a total of about 220 million dollars

Miami

Named ‘North Miami Beach Loop’, the new project by The Boring Company would be a tunnel that would have seven stops and would run between the Golden Glades Transit Center and Newport Pier. It is the initial proposal, although they explain that several additional extensions could be created: one of about 4.8 kilometers to Hard Rock Stadium and another of about 3 kilometers to the Florida International University campus.

This tunnel would serve, according to estimates, to transport some 7,500 passengers per hour, and could increase to 15,000 passengers per hour in the future. A high-capacity tunnel with Tesla cars circulating and carrying passengers.

The budget for this project is estimated at between 185 and 220 million dollars and, according to The Boring Company’s proposal, construction would be completed in less than three years.

The cost per mile of this ‘North Miami Beach Loop’ would be “a fraction of what is seen in other types of public transportation projects,” they explain from the project.

Tunnel

The size of this proposed underground tunnel in Miami is half. In 2021 the one in Las Vegas was opened, with three stops and 2.7 kilometers, but the company already plans to expand it with up to 50 stops and 46 kilometers in distance. At the moment the reality is that its tunnels are being less revolutionary than promised.

It was explained that their autonomous cars would go about 240 kilometers per hour in these tunnels, worse to date they go mainly about 50 km/h in the curves and about 64 km/h on the straights. Little by little, The Boring Company is expanding its idea throughout the United States, but it still seems to be years before this system begins to approach the initially promised daily passenger figures.
